Summary |
Soprano Joan Rodgers and the young singers of the British Youth Opera meet in a masterclass on famous arias by Mozart, Gounod and Tchaikovsky. Very popular British soprano, Joan Rodgers masters the art of the opera, of the concert and of the recital. Laureate in 1981 of the Kathleen Ferrier Memorial Scholarship, she started singing at the opera the year after. Over time, her soft and seducing voice evolved, became more powerful but never lost its beauty. She performed in the most beautiful opera houses of Europe and the Unites States and sang with conductors such as Solti, Barenboim, Salonen and Rattle. The Soprano played prestigious roles in Pelléas and Mélisande at the Opéra national de Paris, Alcina at the Montreux Festival and Figaro at La Monnaie in Bruxelles. She was also awarded many prizes for her performance in The Turn of the Screw at the Royal Opera House of Covent garden. In this masterclass, she works with young singers for the performance of arias of Mozart, Gounod and Tchaikovsky. She chose extracts from very famous pieces such as The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro and Eugene Onegin. The Masterclass Media Foundation Archives offer to students and music lovers around the world filmed masterclasses, given by the best talents, on the greatest works of the classical repertoire. Their primary purpose is to provide a valuable educational resource in order to perpetuate passion and knowledge from one generation to another. |
