While LGBT populations often are combined as a single entity for research and advocacy purposes, each is a distinct population group with its own specific health needs. Furthermore, the experiences of LGBT individuals are not uniform and are shaped by factors of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, geographical location, and age, any of which can have an effect on health-related concerns and needs. The Health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People assesses the state of science on the health status of LGBT populations, identifies research gaps and opportunities, and outlines a research agenda for the National Institute of Health. The report examines the health status of these populations in three life stages: childhood and adolescence, early/middle adulthood, and later adulthood. At each life stage, the committee studied mental health, physical health, risks and protective factors, health services, and contextual influences. To advance understanding of the health needs of all LGBT individuals, the report finds that researchers need more data about the demographics of these populations, improved methods for collecting and analyzing data, and an increased participation of sexual and gender minorities in research. The Health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People is a valuable resource for policymakers, federal agencies including the National Institute of Health (NIH), LGBT advocacy groups, clinicians, and service providers. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Gay people|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85061795|xMedical care|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh00005607|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 Bisexuals|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh93003390|xMedical care|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh00005607|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 Transgender people|xMedical care|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2023000454|zUnited States.|0https:/ /id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 2 Health Status.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D006304 650 2 Minority Health.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D054525 650 2 Bisexuality.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D001727 650 2 Health Services Research.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/ D006302 650 2 Homosexuality.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D006716 650 2 Transsexualism.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D014189 650 7 Gays.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/939255 650 7 Medical care.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1013753 650 7 Bisexuals.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/833357 650 7 Transgender people|xMedical care.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/2070482 650 7 Homosexuals.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/ homoit0000648 650 7 Bisexual people.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/ homoit0000170 650 7 Transgender people.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/ homoit0001378 651 2 United States.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D014481 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 655 4 Electronic books. 710 2 Institute of Medicine (U.S.).|bCommittee on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Health Issues and Research Gaps and Opportunities.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n2011181678 776 08 |iPrint version:|tHealth of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.|dWashington, DC : National Academies Press, ©2011|z9780309210614|w(DLC) 2011017453 |w(OCoLC)716760585 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=381798|zOnline eBook.
