Historically, times of great scientific progress occurred during profound movements in art, the two disciplines working together to enrich and expand humanity's understanding of its place in this cosmos. Only recently has a dividing line been drawn, and this seeming dichotomy misses some of the fundamental similarities between the two endeavors. At the National Academies Keck Futures Initiative Conference on Art, Design and Science, Engineering and Medicine Frontier Collaborations: Ideation, Translation, and Realization, participants spent 3 days exploring diverse challenges at the interface of science, engineering, and medicine. They were arranged into Seed Groups that were intentionally diverse, to encourage the generation of new approaches by combining a range of different types of contributions. The teams included creative practitioners from the fields of art, design, communications, science, engineering, and medicine, as well as representatives from private and public funding agencies, universities, businesses, journals, and the science media"--Publisher's description. 536 Funding for the activity that led to this publication was provided by the W.M. Keck Foundation. Based in Los Angeles, the W.M. Keck Foundation was established in 1954 by the late W.M. Keck, founder of the Superior Oil Company. In recent years, the Foundation has focused on science and engineering research; medical research; undergraduate education; and Southern California. Each grant program invests in people and programs that are making a difference in the quality of life, now and for the future. 588 0 Online resource; title from PDF title page (National Academies Press, viewed Sept. 20, 2016). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Art and science|vCongresses.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2009115681 650 7 Art and science.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 815430 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Conference papers and proceedings.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1423772 655 7 Technical reports.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2015026093 655 7 Technical reports.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1941336 655 7 Conference papers and proceedings.|2lcgft|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026068 710 2 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (U.S.).|bKeck Futures Initiative,|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n2019187633|eissuing body. 710 2 W.
