Summary What is being a man? Contemporary dance brings unconventional and intimate answers. This movie questions gender construction through contemporary dance. Particularly, when a man dances, he presents an unsettled masculinity and develops a new relation with it. A new dynamic in contemporary dance is for male choreographers to create all men cast shows. This practice is to be seen as a search for intimacy within the male group, outside of the pre-conceived ideas and of the stereotypical social role of men. Crucial figures of contemporary creation like Angelin Preljocaj, Christian Bourigault, Mark Tompkins and Kader Belarbi present extracts of their show through which they explore their identities. All of them are heirs to the great Vaclav Nijinski who reintegrated men dancers in the corps de ballet with the Ballet Russe in the beginning of the 20th century.
