For the past several decades, there have been a number of significant advances in research focusing on the neurobiological and psychosocial aspects of stress and addiction; along with this growth came the recognition of the importance of understanding the interaction of biological and psychosocial factors that influence risk for initiation and maintenance of addictive behaviors. Recent research has started to specifically focus on understanding the nature of how stress contributes to addiction - this research has influenced the way we think about addiction and its etiological factors and has produced exciting possibilities for developing effective intervention strategies; to date there has been no available book to integrate this literature. This highly focused work integrates and consolidates available knowledge to provide a resource for researchers and practitioners and for trainees in multiple fields. It will help neuroscientists, social scientists, and mental health providers in addressing the role of stress in addictive behaviors; the volume is also useful as a reference book for those conducting research in this field. * Integrates theoretical and practical issues related to stress and addiction * Includes case studies illustrating where an emotional state and addictive behavior represent a prominent feature of the clinical presentation * Cross-disciplinary coverage with contributions by scientists and practitioners from multiple fields, including psychology, neuroscience, neurobiology, and medicine. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Drug abuse|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85039675|xPhysiological aspects.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00005709 650 0 Stress (Psychology)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85128705|xPhysiological aspects.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh00005709 650 0 Drug abuse|xPsychological aspects.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008117532 650 0 Stress (Psychology)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85128705 650 2 Stress|xcomplications. 650 2 Substance-Related Disorders|xetiology.|0https:// id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D019966Q000209 650 2 Stress, Psychological|xcomplications.|0https:// id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D013315Q000150 650 7 Drug abuse|xPhysiological aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/898519 650 7 Drug abuse.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/898480 650 7 Stress (Psychology)|xPhysiological aspects.|2fast|0https:/ /id.worldcat.org/fast/1134930 650 7 Stress (Psychology)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1134918 650 7 Drug abuse|xPsychological aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/898548 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Absi, Mustafa al.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n2006057267 776 08 |iPrint version:|tStress and addiction.|dAmsterdam ; Boston : Academic Press, ©2007|z0123706327|z9780123706324 |w(DLC) 2006050144|w(OCoLC)70775781 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=195992|zOnline eBook.
