The name of the New York Association for the Blind's Special Committee on Prevention of Blindness (founded in 1908) was changed in 1913 to Committee for the Prevention of Blindness; and in 1915 to New York State Committee for the Prevention of Blindness. In 1918 the New York State Committee for the Prevention of Blindness merged with the American Association for the Conservation of Vision (organized in 1911) to form the National Committee for the Prevention of Blindness.
