Summary |
Choreographer Josette Baïz presents her creations Trafics and Capharnaüm. Choreographer Josette Baïz has been teaching contemporary dance since 1978 in Aix-en-Provence. In 1982, she captured first prize at the 14th Concours International de Chorégraphie de Bagnolet, as well as the prize from the public and of the Ministère de la Culture. After the creation of her first dance company, La Place Blanche, she created 40 dance shows for her companies or national and international Ballets. In 1989, she completely changed her approach as a choreographer, when the Ministère de la Culture suggested that she spent a year teaching dance in a school located in the northern suburbs of Marseille. There, she met young people from different backgrounds and origins, leading her to rethink the meaning of her work. With breakdance, smurf, hip hop, oriental dance, etc., she learnt new movements and ways of thinking dance. Then, she created "Grenade," a choreographic ensemble composed of dancers from her Groupe Grenade, and dancers from her Compagnie Grenade, two other ensembles she founded. With the lattest, she choreographed Trafics and Capharnaüm. |
