| Summary |
Body modifications--be they tattoos, piercings, or implants--have been with humankind for most of its existence. This volume shows that one aspect of that modification, dental modification, has been around for eons. This volume, based on a well-attended symposium at the American Association of Physical Anthropology meeting, goes beyond the simple textual descriptions to explore the cultural context and biological implications of these modifications.
