508 Joëlle Bouvier and Régis Obadia, choreographers.
511 0  Centre national de danse contemporaine d'Angers ;
       L'Esquisse.
520 From 1980 to 1998, Joëlle Bouvier and Régis Obadia have
been a couple choreographers of Major influence on the
French world of modern dance. Thei adventure was marked by
two important stages in contemporary dance: the Centre
chorégraphique national in Le Havre in 1986 and then the
Centre national de danse contemporaine in Angers, until
the couple broke up in 1998. In this documentary which
juxtaposes interviews and excerpts from their shows,
Joëlle Bouvier and Régis Obadia explain how they could "re
       - tame" the world of dance after rejecting it at first,
which was necessary according to them. Their artistic
evolution was influenced by shocking experiences: Pina
Bausch, Merce Cunningham, Ariane Mnouchkine, Francis Bacon,
Dado and Jerzy Grotowski & Thanks to those relations, they
could develop their own vision of the body and their
desire to work with it. The body is presented on its
purity and external elements are rare: lights, make-up,
costumes and even music are reduced to their minimal
expressions. They aim at centering their work on the human,
without explicit message, only through bodies and their
evolution on stage. They want to communicate, to create
communication between bodies and with the public as well.
