The evaluation center is responsible for performing a longitudinal evaluation of AHRQ's patient safety activities and for providing regular feedback to support the continuing improvement of this initiative over a four-year project period. This report presents findings on the history leading to the AHRQ patient safety initiative, the start-up of the initiative, and early activities through September 2003. It focuses on assessing the context and goals that were the foundation for the initiative and documents the baseline status of the activities being undertaken. The evaluation found the agency has done an impressive job in starting the patient safety initiative, despite unreasonable high expectations and insufficient funding. The evaluators identify four priorities for AHRQ that they believe will have the strongest positive impact on the future of the patient safety initiative: designing interim objectives to pull the health care system toward the long-term goal of reducing errors by 50 percent; developing a national patient safety data repository; participating in active public-private partnerships and supporting health care organizations in their implementation activities; and balancing research and adoption activities. 588 0 Print version record. 590 JSTOR|bBooks at JSTOR Open Access 650 0 Medical errors|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85082928|xGovernment policy|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005269|zUnited States.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 Iatrogenic diseases|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85063896|xGovernment policy|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh99005269|zUnited States.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 Patients|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85098709|zUnited States|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n78095330-781|xSafety measures.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00007912 650 7 Medical errors|xGovernment policy.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1014079 650 7 Medical errors.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1014077 650 7 Iatrogenic diseases.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 966438 650 7 Government policy.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1353198 650 7 Patients.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1055033 650 7 Industrial safety.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 971664 651 2 United States.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D014481 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Farley, Donna.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n91114450 700 1 Morton, Sally C.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n00084530 700 1 Damberg, Cheryl.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n89616906 700 1 Fremont, Allen M.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n99803898 700 1 Berry, Sandra H.,|d1949-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n79118458 700 1 Greenberg, Michael D.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n2012040163 700 1 Sorbero, Melony. 700 1 Teleki, Stephanie S. 700 1 Ricci, Karen. 700 1 Pollock, Nancy.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n2007038083 710 2 RAND Health.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n2001145525 710 2 Rand Corporation.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n78083407 710 1 United States.|bAgency for Healthcare Research and Quality.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no00015616 776 08 |iPrint version:|tAssessment of the national patient safety initiative.|dSanta Monica, CA : RAND Health, ©2005 |z0833037870|w(DLC) 2005007121|w(OCoLC)58526765 787 1 |7nnam|tAssessment of the AHRQ patient safety initiative : focus on implementation and dissemination evaluation report III (2004-2005)|rRAND/TR-508-AHRQ 787 1 |7nnam|tAssessment of the AHRQ patient safety initiative: moving from research to practice evaluation report II (2003-2004)|rRAND/TR-463-AHRQ 856 40 |uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.7249/tr203ahrq|zOnline eBook.
