Summary |
The French choreographer Karine Saporta at the Cairo Opera House for the premiere of a new ballet in 2006, Dans Le Regard de la nuit. Karine Saporta, one of the figureheads of the Nouvelle Danse Française, encounters a young company, the Egyptian Modern Dance Company, to set a new choreographic production. Drawing on a combination of rehearsal excerpts and interviews with the choreographer as well as with the dancers, the documentary produced by the movie director Anne De Mo bears witnesses of a creative process that puts into dialogue the contemporary Western language with the Egyptian traditional vocabulary. The fruit of this encounter is the ballet Dans Le Regard de la nuit, an "exploration of the sea floor," as metaphor of a plunge into the collective subconscious, which tries to establish points of contact between the East and the West. |
