As science and technology capabilities grow around the world, U.S.-based organizations are finding that international collaborations and partnerships provide unique opportunities to enhance research and training. International research agreements can serve many purposes, but data are always involved in these collaborations. The kinds of data in play within international research agreements varies widely and may range from financial and consumer data, to Earth and space data, to population behavior and health data, to specific project-generated data--this is just a narrow set of examples of research data but illustrates the breadth of possibilities. The uses of these data are various and require accounting for the effects of data access, use, and sharing on many different parties. Cultural, legal, policy, and technical concerns are also important determinants of what can be done in the realms of maintaining privacy, confidentiality, and security, and ethics is a lens through which the issues of data, data sharing, and research agreements can be viewed as well. A workshop held on March 14-16, 2018, in Washington, DC explored the changing opportunities and risks of data management and use across disciplinary domains. The third workshop in a series, participants gathered to examine advisory principles for consideration when developing international research agreements, in the pursuit of highlighting promising practices for sustaining and enabling international research collaborations at the highest ethical level possible. The intent of the workshop was to explore, through an ethical lens, the changing opportunities and risks associated with data management and use across disciplinary domains--all within the context of international research agreements. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop"--Publisher's description 588 Online resource; title from PDF title page (National Academies Press, viewed January 2, 2019). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Big data|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2012003227|xMoral and ethical aspects|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh00006099|vCongresses. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001533 650 0 Technology|xMoral and ethical aspects|vCongresses.|0https: //id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2009102921 650 0 Data integration (Computer science)|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2010014388|xMoral and ethical aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh00006099|vCongresses.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99001533 650 0 Big data|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2012003227|xInternational cooperation|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh00006352|vCongresses. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001533 650 7 Big data.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1892965 650 7 Technology|xMoral and ethical aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1145164 650 7 Data integration (Computer science)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1763872 650 7 International cooperation.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/976857 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Conference papers and proceedings.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1423772 655 7 Conference papers and proceedings.|2lcgft|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026068 700 1 Alper, Joe,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n82120210|erapporteur. 700 1 Sloan, Susan Sauer,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2011174068|erapporteur. 710 2 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (U.S.).|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2015135192 |bPlanning Committee for the Workshop on Ethics, Data, and International Research Collaboration in a Changing World, |eissuing body. 710 2 Government-University-Industry Research Roundtable,|0https ://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n88662914|eauthor. 711 2 Ethics, Data, and International Research Collaboration in a Changing World (Workshop)|d(2018 :|cWashington, D.C.), |jauthor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aNational Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.|tData Matters : Ethics, Data, and International Research Collaboration in a Changing World: Proceedings of a Workshop.|dWashington, D.C. : National Academies Press, ©2018|z9780309482479 |w(OCoLC)1080997508 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=2015017|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
