For the first time, leading scholars in geography, film and cultural studies have been drawn together to explore the multiple ways in ideas of cinema and countryside are co-produced: how 'film makes rural' and 'rural makes film'. From the expanse of the American great west to the mountainous landscapes of North Korea, Cinematic Countrysides draws on a range of popular and alternative film genres to demonstrate how film texts come to prefigure expectations of rural social space, and how these representations come to shape, and be shaped by, the material and embodied circumstances of 'lived' rural experience. At the heart of this volume's varied apprehensions of the 'cinematic countryside' is a concern to argue that ideas of rurality in film are central to wider questions of 'modernity' and 'tradition', 'self' and 'other', 'nationhood' and 'globalisation', and crucially, ones that are central to an account of the 'cinematic city'. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Country life in motion pictures.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85033469 650 0 Landscapes in motion pictures.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh93001458 650 0 Motion pictures|xSocial aspects.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85088108 650 7 Country life in motion pictures.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/881423 650 7 Landscapes in motion pictures.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1899803 650 7 Motion pictures|xSocial aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1027384 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Fish, Robert,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ nb2008001905|eeditor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|tCinematic countrysides.|dManchester : Manchester University Press, 2014|z9780719072673 |w(OCoLC)896851642 830 0 Inside popular film.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names /n94085633 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1823437|zOnline eBook.
