This volume presents two landmark lectures given by Hans Bethe in October 1990 and Alan H. Guth in June 1991 under the series of Oskar Klein Memorial Lectures. Hans Bethe's lectures dealt with two themes: the astrophysical importance of neutrinos in supernova outbursts and a theoretical account of neutrinos through observations of the neutrino flux from the centre of the sun. Anyone interested in understanding the processes involved in the collapse and explosion of a large star would certainly find this book enlightening. Alan H. Guth's lecture dealt with the various aspects of the origin of the universe - a topic which never fails to intrigue. The originator of the inflation scenario for the Big Bang theory, Guth has included his latest observations on the COBE satellite and their theoretical interpretation in this lecture. Anyone wishing to grasp the essentials of these ideas, will find in Guth's lecture a wealth of knowledge. This volume also presents for the first time in English the original derivation of the Klein-Nishima formula for Compton scattering and an account of the "Klein Paradox". A special study reveals interesting facts on the callaboration between Oskar Klein and Yoshio Nishima in 1928 and further, surprising facts on the treatment by the Nobel Committee for Physics of the prize to A.H. Compton in 1927. Some translated autobiographic texts have also been included to acquaint the reader with Klein's interest in cosmology and his attempts to find the driving force behind the expanding system of galaxies, what Klein termed the meta-galaxy. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 10 Klein, Oskar.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n91029752 600 17 Klein, Oskar.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/283539 650 0 Physicists|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85101651|zSweden|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n79021184-781|vBiography.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99001237 650 0 Neutrinos.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85091200 650 0 Supernovae.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85130637 650 0 Big bang theory.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85013943 650 0 Cosmology.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85033169 650 0 Expanding universe.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85046408 650 0 Wave mechanics.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85145784 650 7 Physicists.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1063014 650 7 Neutrinos.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1036602 650 7 Supernovae.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1138973 650 7 Big bang theory.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 831589 650 7 Cosmology.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/880600 650 7 Expanding universe.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 918293 650 7 Wave mechanics.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1172881 651 7 Sweden.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204537 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Biographies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1919896 655 7 Biographies.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026049 700 1 Bethe, Hans A.|q(Hans Albrecht),|d1906-2005.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n50009103 700 1 Guth, Alan H.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n82109092 700 1 Klein, Oskar.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n91029752 776 08 |iPrint version:|tOskar Klein memorial lectures. |dSingapore ; London : World Scientific, 1994|z9810214502 |w(OCoLC)54337372 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=511671|zOnline eBook.
