It explores the part that Rama and Arguedas played in the conceptualization and promotion of new cultural spaces made possible by commodification and industrialization, as capitalism transformed the imaginaries and materialities that had shaped their cultural projects for Andean and Latin American cultures. Through a material analysis of print culture objects, in particular those resulting from Rama's editorial ventures--such as pocket paperbacks and a popular encyclopedia--this work examines the transformations occurring at the time in Latin America at the level of production and circulation of culture, and thus sheds light on the emergence of new networks of communication between intellectuals and national and regional publics. Similarly, it explores the role of emergent communication technologies (sound recording and radio) in the reshaping of rural indigenous cultures into a mass-oriented popular culture in Peru. In this context, Arguedas's work with folklore and his later involvement in the Andean popular music scene in Lima are studied as responses to a violent process of commercialization of traditional Andean musical culture, a result of mass migration from rural areas to cities and urbanization"-- Provided by publisher. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 10 Arguedas, José María|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names /n79084333|xPolitical and social views.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002011435 600 10 Rama, Ángel|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n50054963|xPolitical and social views.|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh2002011435 600 17 Arguedas, José María.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 40024 600 17 Rama, Ángel.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/18150 648 7 20th century|2fast 648 7 1900-1999|2fast 650 0 Communication|xTechnological innovations|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008117715|zSouth America|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85125524-781|xHistory|y20th century.|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 0 Printing|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85106751|xSocial aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh00002758|zSouth America|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85125524-781|xHistory|y20th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2002006165 650 0 Indians of South America|zAndes Region|xSocial conditions |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2009126859 |y20th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2002012476 650 0 Social change|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85123918|zAndes Region|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh87002893-781|xHistory|y20th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 0 Social change|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85123918|zSouth America|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85125524-781|xHistory|y20th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 0 Popular culture|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85104904|zAndes Region|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh87002893-781|xHistory|y20th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 0 Popular culture|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85104904|zSouth America|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85125524-781|xHistory|y20th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 7 Political and social views.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org /fast/1353986 650 7 Communication|xTechnological innovations.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/870031 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Printing|xSocial aspects.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1076663 650 7 Printing.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1076612 650 7 Indians of South America.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/969962 650 7 Social conditions.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1919811 650 7 Social change.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1122310 650 7 Popular culture.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1071344 650 7 Intellectual life.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 975769 651 0 South America|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85125524|xIntellectual life|y20th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh00006346 651 7 South America.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1244515 651 7 Andes Region.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1241744 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aGarcía Liendo, Javier.|tIntelectual y la cultura de masas.|dWest Lafayette, Indiana : Purdue University Press, [2017]|z9781612494746|w(DLC) 2016013429 830 0 Purdue studies in Romance literatures ;|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n92070290|vv. 68. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1484061|zOnline eBook.
