Performer La Fura dels Baus.
Summary La Fura dels Baus made its way from city streets to the world's great stages, from underground to establishment -- this is the story of a theater collective without parallel in the world today. The film starts with one of their most widely seen productions -- the gigantic opening ceremony of the Shanghai Expo 2010 -- and relates the story of this visionary ensemble that is now setting new standards in opera production worldwide. Elements such as flying actors, human sculptures, socio-political critique and esotericism have helped create the "brand" La Fura dels Baus in the over 30 years of their existence. The film portrays their beginnings in Catalonia with street theater for children, which then evolved into provocative adult theater with "acciónes" such as Suz-o-Suz, their first Major success and a classic performed for over 10 years. We then follow their progress on the international scene with their first Major contract, the opening ceremony of the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. The group then turned its attention to opera, and made its breakthrough at the Salzburg Festival. A genuine sensation was the ensemble's Ring tetralogy in Valencia under Zubin Mehta. The program also provides a glimpse of other unforgettable productions in Milan, Madrid and elsewhere. It is a fascinating journey around the world with a group of phenomenally gifted, yet down-to-earth artists!
