The central aim is to investigate how people use their visual perception in the performance of tasks and to explore how the intentional control of action is achieved.; Through an extensive review of the philosophy of psychology, the history of ideas and theories of intentional control, and an analysis of various tasks, a theory is developed which argues that there is an important difference between report tasks and act tasks.; The first section of the book introduces the issues of visual perception in a historical context and outlines van der Heijden's theory. The theory is developed in the second and third sections by analysing the findings from some of the main experimental paradigms of cognitive psychology and applying the theory to act tasks. Finally, the epilogue draws together the theory into an explanation of different historical and theoretical perspectives in psychology. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Visual perception.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85143926 650 0 Selectivity (Psychology)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85119677 650 0 Attention.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85009391 650 7 Visual perception.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1168049 650 7 Selectivity (Psychology)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1111388 650 7 Attention.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/820788 655 4 Electronic books. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aHeijden, A.H.C. van der.|tAttention in vision.|dHove, East Sussex [England] : Psychology Press ; New York : Taylor & Francis, 2004|z1841693480|w(DLC) 2003010585|w(OCoLC)52271710 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=105889|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
