Less is said about the life of those that stayed at home, or those that immigrated into Scandinavia, whether voluntarily or by force.0This book uses results from the examination of a substantial corpus of Swedish osteological material to discuss aspects of demography and health in the Viking period - those which would have been visible and recognisable in the faces or physical appearances of the individuals concerned. It explores the effects of migration, from the spread of new diseases such as leprosy to patterns of movement and integration of immigrants into society. The skeletal material also allows the study of levels of violence, attitudes towards disablement, and the care provided by Viking communities. An overview of the worldwide phenomenon of modified teeth also gives insight into the practice of deliberate physical embellishment and body modification. The interdisciplinary approach to questions regarding ordinary life presented here will broaden the knowledge about society during the Viking Age. The synthesis of the Swedish unburnt human skeletal remains dated to the Viking age will be a valuable resource for future research, and provides an in-depth view on Viking age society. 588 0 Online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on November 02, 2018). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 648 7 To 1397|2fast 650 0 Physical anthropology|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85101512|zSweden|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79021184-781|xHistory.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Human remains (Archaeology)|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh92003545|zSweden.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79021184-781 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Physical anthropology.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /1062357 650 7 Human remains (Archaeology)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org /fast/963213 651 0 Sweden|xHistory|yTo 1397.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85131056 651 7 Sweden.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204537 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 700 1 Jacobsson, Bengt,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no99083599|eauthor. 700 1 Cinthio, Maria,|d1946-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/nb90748453|eauthor. 700 1 Drenzel, Leena,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2022138118|eauthor. 700 1 Agustí, Bibiana,|d1962-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n98034627|eauthor. 700 1 Karlsson, Jonny,|d1957-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/nb99132477|eauthor. 700 1 Hyll, Staffan,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n2013031377|eillustrator. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aArcini, Caroline.|tViking Age.|dOxford : Oxbow Books, 2018|z1785709380|w(OCoLC)1005201244 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1850317|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
