Fog, hidden reefs, rocks, and sandbars have made the waters of the river and gulf among the most treacherous in the world. In the earliest days of lightkeeping in this region, the safety of the mariners had to be weighed against the problem of giving aid to enemy ships. With peace between French and English, safety became the overriding factor and the number of lighthouses, then light pillars and lightships. 550 Co-published by: Dept. of Canadian Heritage and Canada Communication Group-Publishing, Supply and Services Canada. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Lighthouses|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85076918|zSaint Lawrence River|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85116587-781|xHistory.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Lighthouses|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85076918|zSaint Lawrence, Gulf of|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85116586-781|xHistory.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Lighthouse keepers|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85076916|zSaint Lawrence River|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85116587-781|xHistory. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Lighthouse keepers|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85076916|zSaint Lawrence, Gulf of|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85116586-781|xHistory. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 7 Lighthouses.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/998630 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Lighthouse keepers.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 998621 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 710 1 Canada.|bCanadian Heritage.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/no94011320 776 08 |iPrint version:|aLafrenière, Normand.|tLightkeeping on the St. Lawrence.|dToronto ; Niagara Falls, N.Y. : Dundurn Press, ©1996|z1550022776|z9781550022773|w(DLC) 97120978 |w(OCoLC)35690530 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=244830|zOnline eBook.
