| Summary |
Mozart's The Magic Flute set in Marquis de Sade's beautiful estate, the Château de Lacoste in Provence. Founded by the fashion designer Pierre Cardin, the Festival de Lacoste aims at supporting the most promising singers by offering them the opportunity to perform by the side of well-established artists in outstanding productions. This wonderful and sensual production of Mozart's The Magic Flute stars a remarkable cast with the tenor Éric Laporte, the soprano Sandrine Piau and the baritone Evgueniy Alexiev in the roles of Tamino, Pamina and Papageno respectively. The movie director Luc Riolon follows the singers throughout the production's creative process, from rehearsals with the Romanian director Petrika Ionesco until the first night. By an irony of history, it is in the quarry of the Château de Lacoste, former estate of the author of Justine or the Misfortunes of virtue, that is performed this free-mason singspiel, initiatic work showing a confident optimism inspired by the Enlightement ideology. |
