Others shift focus from process to the archaeology of maritime places from the Bering to the Torres Straits, providing highly detailed discussions of how living by and with the sea is woven into all elements of human life from subsistence to trade and to ritual. Of equal importance are more abstract discussions of islands as natural places refashioned by human occupation, either through the introduction of new organisms or new systems of production and consumption. These transformation stories gain further texture (and variety) through close examinations of some of the more significant consequences of colonisation and migration, particularly the creation of new cultural identities. A final set of papers explores the ways in which the techniques of archaelogical sciences have provided insights into the fauna of the islands and the human history of such places."--Provided by publisher. 546 English. 588 0 Print version record. 590 JSTOR|bBooks at JSTOR Open Access 600 10 Anderson, Atholl.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n82042796 650 0 Coastal archaeology.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh87000460 650 0 Coastal settlements|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2006007863|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Island archaeology.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2003004186 650 0 Underwater archaeology.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85139611 650 0 Island archaeology|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2003004186|zOceania.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85093910-781 650 0 Coastal archaeology|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh87000460|zOceania.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85093910-781 650 0 Colonies|zOceania.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh86007181 650 7 Coastal archaeology.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 865719 650 7 Coastal settlements.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1741432 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Island archaeology.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1199903 650 7 Underwater archaeology.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1161071 650 7 Colonies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/868456 651 7 Oceania.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1242982 655 0 Electronic book. 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Festschriften.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1941036 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 655 7 Festschriften.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2016026082 700 1 Clark, Geoffrey R.|q(Geoffrey Richard),|d1966-|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2002037970|eeditor. 700 1 Leach, Foss,|d1942-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n83064586|eeditor. 700 1 O'Connor, Sue,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ nb99183430|eeditor. 700 1 Anderson, Atholl.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n82042796 710 2 ANU E Press.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2013057750 776 08 |iPrint version:|tIslands of inquiry.|dCanberra, A.C.T. : ANU E Press, ©2008|z9781921313899|w(DLC) 2010413257 |w(OCoLC)240481384 830 0 Terra Australis ;|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n84706360|v29. 856 40 |uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24h8gp|zOnline eBook.
