The disaster paradigm has accelerated efforts towards resilience building, particularly since the adoption of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA), a ten year plan to build the resilience of nations and communities to disasters. Urban areas present complexity and interconnectivity of various elements, and this needs to be considered when building the resilience of such areas to disasters. To address urban risks, local level disaster risk reduction (DRR) is of fundamental importance, not only because it is closer to the citizens, but because it is the repository of regulatory governance functions and local knowledge. The need to scale up the capacity of DRR at the local government level to build urban resilience is a key incentive for this study. With particular reference to the example of Makati City in the Philippines, this book analyses a local DRR approach with reference to the HFA, applies a micro-level resilience assessment and discusses an effective model for enhancing local DRR capacity in the future. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Hazard mitigation|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh2005020161|zPhilippines|zMakati.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n80043416-781 650 0 Emergency management|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh91000441|zPhilippines|zMakati.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80043416-781 650 7 Hazard mitigation.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1737034 650 7 Emergency management.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 908500 651 7 Philippines|zMakati.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1208315 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Matsuoka, Yuki,|dactive 2014.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n2014192208 700 1 Shaw, Rajib.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n2009025009 776 08 |iPrint version:|aMatsuoka, Yuki.|tHyogo Framework for Action and Urban Disaster Resilience.|dBradford : Emerald Group Publishing Limited, ©2014|z9781783509270 830 0 Community, environment and disaster risk management ; |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2010052470|vv. 16. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=777963|zOnline eBook.
