Summary Program # 836: Title: Belarus and the accidental activist "There were high hopes for Belarus when the Soviet Union dissolved. But Alexander Lukashenko soon began to reinstate authoritarian rule. He saw the country's universities as dangerous threats. Special pressure was brought upon the European Humanities University and it was forced into exile in 2004. Anatoli Mikhailov, the university's rector, describes how EHU continues to represent free speech and democracy even in exile."
Program #837: Title: Iraq : the next chapter "Crafting a national identity has been a long and difficult project for Iraqis. Now, the internecine conflict of a divided state threatens their hard won sense of who they are as a people. Reconstituting that image will not be easy but it is fundamental to hopes for lasting peace and stability. Phebe Marr explains why this is so."
Commentary #294: Title: What people are talking about in Washington "Around Washington these days the same issues come up over and over again. Former Congressman Lee Hamilton discusses what is on people's minds inside the Beltway."--Track sheet.
