Working in a small converted bedroom of his villa in the south of France, Bonnard suffused his late canvases with radiant Mediterranean light and dazzling color. Although his subjects were close at hand-usually everyday scenes taken from his immediate surroundings, such as the dining room table being set for breakfast, or a jug of flowers perched on the mantelpiece - Bonnard rarely painted from life. Instead, he preferred to make pencil sketches in small diaries and then rely on these, along with his memory, once in the studio." "This volume, which accompanies the first exhibition to focus on the interior and related still-life imagery from the last decades of Bonnard's long career, presents more than seventy-five paintings, drawings, and works on paper, many of them rarely seen in public and in some cases, little known. Although Bonnard's legacy may be removed from the succession of trends that today we consider the foundation of modernism, his contribution to French art in the early decades of the twentieth century is far more profound than history has generally acknowledged. In their insightful essays and catalogue entries the authors bring fresh critical perspectives to the ongoing reappraisal of Bonnard's reputation and to his place within the narrative of twentieth-century art."--Jacket. 600 10 Bonnard, Pierre,|d1867-1947|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79040127|vExhibitions.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001275 600 10 Bonnard, Pierre.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n82056697 600 14 Bonnard, Pierre,|d1867-1947. 600 14 Bonnard|xPierre|x1867-1947|xCatalogs. 600 17 Bonnard, Pierre,|d1867-1947.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/33681 600 17 Bonnard, Pierre.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/91122 650 0 Interior architecture in art.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh96011837 650 0 Still-life in art|vExhibitions.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2010114733 650 7 Interior architecture in art.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/976326 650 7 Still-life in art.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1896105 655 7 Exhibition catalogs.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/genreForms/gf2014026098 655 7 Exhibition catalogs.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1424028 700 1 Amory, Dita,|d1954-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n95011530 700 1 Myers, Nicole R.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n2008077471 700 1 Stielau, Allison.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n2008077473 710 2 Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York, N.Y.)|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79129629 776 08 |iOnline version:|aBonnard, Pierre, 1867-1947.|tPierre Bonnard.|dNew York : Metropolitan Museum of Art ; New Haven : Yale University Press, c2009|w(OCoLC)609091473 856 41 |3Table of contents only|uhttp://catdir.loc.gov/catdir/toc /fy0905/2008049975.html 856 41 |3Table of contents|mDE-576;DE-16|qapplication/pdf|uhttp:/ /swbplus.bsz-bw.de/bsz302502939inh.htm|v20090218153728 901 MARCIVE 20231220 935 561565 994 C0|bRID
