An important motivation for this effort is to fulfill a congressional mandate to monitor the status of women and minorities in the science and engineering workforce. Consequently, many statistics are calculated by race or ethnicity, gender, and disability status. For more than 25 years, NSF obtained a sample frame for identifying the target population for information it gathered from the list of respondents to the decennial census long-form who indicated that they had earned a bachelors or higher degree. The probability that an individual was sampled from this list was dependent on both demographic and employment characteristics. But, the source for the sample frame will no longer be available because the census long- form is being replaced as of the 2010 census with the continuous collection of detailed demographic and other information in the new American Community Survey (ACS). At the request of NSF's Science Resources Statistics Division, the Committee on National Statistics of the National Research Council formed a panel to conduct a workshop and study the issues involved in replacing the decennial census long-form sample with a sample from the ACS to serve as the frame for the information the NSF gathers. The workshop had the specific objective of identifying issues for the collection of field of degree information on the ACS with regard to goals, content, statistical methodology, data quality, and data products"--Publisher's website. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 610 20 National Science Foundation (U.S.)|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79005681 610 24 National Science Foundation (U.S.) 610 27 National Science Foundation (U.S.)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/529404 630 00 American community survey.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/nr98024118 630 04 American community survey. 630 7 American community survey.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1392060 630 07 American community survey.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1392060 650 0 Scientists|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85118696|xSupply and demand|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00005605|zUnited States.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 Engineers|xSupply and demand|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85043254|zUnited States.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 Household surveys|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008121932 650 7 Scientists|xSupply and demand.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1108938 650 7 Scientists.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1108895 650 7 Engineers|xSupply and demand.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/910681 650 7 Household surveys.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 962152 651 0 United States|vCensus.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85139920 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Census data.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411644 655 7 Census data.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026059 710 2 National Research Council (U.S.).|bPanel on Assessing the Benefits of the American Community Survey for the NSF Division of Science Resources Statistics.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2008137350 776 08 |iPrint version:|tUsing the American community survey for the National Science Foundation's science and engineering workforce statistics programs.|dWashington, DC : National Academies Press, ©2008|z0309121531|z9780309121538 |w(OCoLC)234146567 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=247385|zOnline eBook.
