Summary Keys to orchestra What is a symphony? What is the role of each instrument in the orchestra? What is a variation? What is a theme? In his Clefs de l'orchestre, Jean-François Zygel seeks to convey to a wide audience the keys to understanding a work from the symphony repertoire performed at the Maison de la Radio. Accompanied by the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra and prestigious conductors, the pianist decomposes the work with humour and provides a context for a clearer explanation. The New World Symphony by Dvořák, the Symphonie fantastique by Berlioz and the Bolero by Ravel are deciphered with words and music under the direction of this incomparable teacher and his piano, the faithful companion of his improvisations. Keys to orchestra -- Haydn For his first music lesson filmed live with an orchestra, Jean-François Zygel chose to dissect Symphony No. 103 "The Drumroll." Jean-François analyses in a simple manner and with humour the famous work by Haydn under the benevolent eye of the conductor Ton Koopman at the head of the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra who illustrates his points. Each movement is explained before being played by the orchestra. After 90 minutes in the company of Jean-François Zygel, you will no longer listen to a symphonic orchestra with the same ear.
