This book asks the question of how such a small nation could become such a major player in those fields. Claartje Rasterhoff shows how industrial organisations played a role in shaping patterns of growth and innovations. As early modern Dutch cultural industries were concentrated geographically, highly networked, and institutionally embedded, they were able to reduce uncertainty in the marketplace and stimulate the commercial and creative potential of painters and publishers-though those successes eventually came up against the limits of a saturated domestic market and an aversion to risk on the part of producers that ultimately brought an end to the boom. 588 Description based on print version record. 590 Project Muse|bProject Muse Open Access 650 0 Painting|zNetherlands|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2010104864 650 0 Publishers and publishing|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85108871|zNetherlands|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n78085423-781|xHistory.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Art and industry|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85007961|zNetherlands|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n78085423-781|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Art|xEconomic aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2007101418|zNetherlands|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n78085423-781|xHistory.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 7 Wirtschaft.|2gnd 650 7 Malerei.|2gnd 650 7 Buchdruck.|2gnd 650 7 Branche.|2gnd 650 7 Publishers and publishing.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1083463 650 7 Painting.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1050567 650 7 Art|xEconomic aspects.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /815231 650 7 Art and industry.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 815398 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 651 7 Netherlands.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204034 651 7 Niederlande.|2gnd 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 655 7 Electronic books. .|2local 710 2 Project Muse,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n96089174|edistributor. 830 0 Amsterdam studies in the Dutch golden age.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2007027843 830 0 Book collections on Project MUSE. 856 40 |zOnline eBook.
