Summary |
Paradise in Harlem: This crime drama features an all African-American cast and centers on Lem Anderson, a club singer aspires to be a great dramatic actor. His big chance evaporates when he witnesses a mob hit. Pressure from the mob and the death of his ill wife forces Lem to leave town, drifting from place to place in an alcoholic stupor. An opportunity to play Othello draws Lem back to Harlem despite the risk leads to an interesting climax. |

The duke is tops: Ethel Andrews is a star of a traveling musical revue who is billed as The Bronze Venus. Promoter Duke Davis, believing that he is holding back her career prospects, tricks Ethel into leaving him so that she can be free to pursue stardom in New York. When Ethel fails in the big time, Duke returns to her in New York. The two decide to develop a new show using specialty acts to showcase Ethel's singing. |
