Those facing serious illness have a range of interconnected medical and non-medical needs, and the way their care is financed has a large impact on the care they receive. Medicare is the predominant payer, but both Medicaid and private payers also play significant roles in financing care for serious illness. In an effort to address the complex needs of people with serious illness, public and private health care payers are testing innovative financing strategies and alternative payment models. These innovative approaches signal a gradual transition from the traditional-fee-for-service system that pays providers based on the quantity of services to a system based on the value of care provided and a heightened focus on improved quality of care at lower cost. To explore this evolving financing and payment landscape for serious illness care within public- and private-sector programs, the Roundtable on Quality Care for People with Serious Illness developed a workshop, Financing and Payment Strategies to Support High-Quality Care for People with Serious Illness. The workshop convened clinicians, researchers, policy analysts, and patient advocates, as well as representatives from academia, government and private health care plans, and insurers to discuss challenges and opportunities in financing high-quality care for people with serious illness. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop"--Publisher's description. 588 0 Online resource; title from PDF title page (viewed August 30, 2018). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Medical care, Cost of|zUnited States|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008107281|xEvaluation|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh00005674|vCongresses. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001533 650 0 Catastrophic illness|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh88004127|xEconomic aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005484|zUnited States|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78095330-781|vCongresses. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001533 650 0 Medical policy|zUnited States|vCongresses.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2010101191 650 7 Medical care, Cost of.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /1013902 650 7 Evaluation.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/916975 650 7 Catastrophic illness|xEconomic aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/848922 650 7 Catastrophic illness.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 848920 650 7 Medical policy.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1014505 651 2 United States.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D014481 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 655 2 Congress.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D016423 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Conference papers and proceedings.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1423772 655 7 Conference papers and proceedings.|2lcgft|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026068 700 1 Soohoo, Elaine,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n2018187133|erapporteur. 700 1 Alper, Joe,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n82120210|erapporteur. 710 2 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (U.S.).|bRoundtable on Quality Care for People with Serious Illness,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2017137683|eissuing body. 711 2 Financing and Payment Strategies to Support High-quality Care for People with Serious Illness (Workshop)|d(2017 : |cWashington, D.C.)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2018097935 776 08 |iPrint version:|tFinancing and payment strategies to support high-quality care for people with serious illness. |dWashington, D.C. : National Academies Press, 2018 |z9780309474443|w(OCoLC)1036236668 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1906156|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
