"Each song [of the the Bible songs and hymns, op. 113] is from the Old Testament and is followed (in the manner of a German cantata) by a hymn sung by the choir, as a solo cantata would be followed by a chorale. The words are chosen to complement the prophetic text of the song, highlighting the mood and, whilst the choral part is based upon the melody of a well known hymn tune, the organ accompaniment quotes from the song itself."--Notes, p. [3].
Performer Kenneth Burgess, baritone (in op. 113); St. Albans Cathedral Choir; Simon Bell, Andrew Lucas, or Andrew Parnell, organ; Andrew Lucas, conductor.
