Summary |
Ninety minutes of orchestral Post Romantic music! Charles Dutoit conducts Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony and Neeme Järvi conducts Dvorák's New World Symphony! The Symphony No. 5 by Tchaikovsky is a milestone of the classical music repertoire. It is as tragic in the introduction of its Andante on clarinet as it is light in its highly lyrical waltz. Charles Dutoit leads the Verbier Festival Orchestra -- of which he is the music director for many years. Definitely inspired by the aesthetic, tonality and orchestration of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Dvořák's Ninth is a hymn to the United Sates, which the composer visited at the end of the XIXth century. It was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic and the work was premiered by the orchestra in 1893. Very quickly afterwards, the New World Symphony became one of the world's most performed and famous pieces of the orchestral repertoire. These two concerts were broadcast live from the Verbier Festival on July 20 and 30, 2012 on medici.tv. |
