Summary |
Songs from Another Age follows the creation of a Medieval Mystery Play by the Organum Ensemble conducted by Marcel Peres. After visiting the small Tuscan village of Cortona -- where Peres comes to examine the Laudario manuscript, the earliest known collection of 13th century popular religious chants -- the rehearsals with the singers begin in Corsica. Most of the 10 singers are Corsican as, for Marcel Peres, their vocal tradition is closest to that of medieval Tuscan church music. The Ensemble's many months of hard work, moments of laughter and inspiration transform this obscure and incomplete manuscript into a living Medieval Mystery Play premiered at Paris' new Cité de la Musique concert hall. |
