In this book, Anthony Celano explores how medieval authors recast Aristotle's Ethics according to their own moral ideals. He argues that the moral standard for the Ethics is a human one, which is based upon the ethical tradition and the best practices of a given society. In the Middle Ages, this human standard was replaced by one that is universally applicable, since its foundation is eternal immutable divine law. Celano resolves the conflicting accounts of happiness in Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics, demonstrates the importance of the virtue of phronesis (practical wisdom), and shows how the medieval view of moral reasoning alters Aristotle's concept of moral wisdom. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 00 Aristotle.|tNicomachean ethics.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n82035261 600 00 Albertus,|cMagnus, Saint,|d1193?-1280.|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/names/n81007973 600 07 Albertus,|cMagnus, Saint,|d1193?-1280.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/66827 630 07 Nicomachean ethics (Aristotle)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1357515 650 0 Ethics.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85045096 650 0 Philosophy, Medieval.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85100956 650 7 Ethics.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/915833 650 7 Philosophy, Medieval.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1061057 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aCelano, Anthony J.|tAristotle's ethics and medieval philosophy|z9781107134850|w(DLC) 2015033489 |w(OCoLC)921102581 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1093152|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
