At its zenith during the Western Han dynasty, before an interregnum period divided the dynasty into the Western/ Former Han (202 BCE-9 CE) and Eastern/Later Han (25-220 CE), Chang'an was nearly three times the size of Rome and nearly four times larger than Alexandria. Although thousands of studies document imperial Rome's glory, no book-length work in a Western language is devoted to Chang'an, even though the two cities had comparable numbers of capital residents and imperial subjects and comparably vast territories. Chang'an 26 BCE addresses this deficiency, using the reign period of Emperor Chengdi (r. 33-7 BCE) and the year in which the Imperial Library Project began (26 BCE) as a focal point. Such a volume is possible now through correlation of archaeological and literary records relating to several decades in the capital region, when the Western Han capital flourished brilliantly before it was partially razed in 23 CE. This first in-depth survey by some of the world's best scholars, Chinese and Western, builds a case for the need to revise historical assumptions about the two Han dynasties"-- Provided by publisher. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 00 Han Chengdi,|cEmperor of China,|d32 B.C.-7 B.C.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2004059608 600 07 Han Chengdi,|cEmperor of China,|d32 B.C.-7 B.C.|2fast |0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1822706 648 7 To 1500|2fast 650 0 City and town life|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85026255|zChina|zChang'an Zhen|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2012077689-781|xHistory|yTo 1500.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2002006121 650 0 Social change|zChina|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2008111784|zChang'an Zhen|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n2012077689-781|xHistory|yTo 1500. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006121 650 7 City and town life.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 862081 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Social change.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1122310 651 0 Chang'an Zhen (China)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n2012077689|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005024 651 0 Chang'an Zhen (China)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n2012077689|xAntiquities.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99002344 651 0 Chang'an Zhen (China)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n2012077689|xPolitics and government.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002011436 651 0 Chang'an Zhen (China)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n2012077689|xIntellectual life.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005642 651 0 China|xHistory|yHan dynasty, 202 B.C.-220 A.D.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85024043 651 0 China|xHistory|yHan dynasty, 202 B.C.-220 A.D.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85024043|vBiography. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001237 651 7 China.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1206073 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Biographies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1919896 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 655 7 Biographies.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026049 700 1 Nylan, Michael.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n86833738 700 1 Vankeerberghen, Griet,|d1964-|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/nr96009259 700 1 Loewe, Michael.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n81061732 776 08 |iPrint version:|tChang'an 26 BCE|z9780295994055|w(DLC) 2014025638|w(OCoLC)900194055 830 0 Samuel and Althea Stroum book.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n91006742 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=993125|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
