Raised in Seattle and then forcibly removed and detained in the Minidoka concentration camp, their early lives mirrored those of many Japanese Americans. Yasutake's pacifism endured even with immense pressure to enlist during his confinement and the years following World War II. His faith-based activism guided him in condemning imperialism and inequality, and he worked tirelessly to free political prisoners and defend human rights. Yamada became an internationally acclaimed feminist poet and professor who continues to speak out against racism and patriarchy. Weaving together the stories of two distinct but intrinsically connected political lives, Nisei Radicals examines the siblings' half century of dedication to global movements, including multicultural feminism, Puerto Rican independence, Japanese American redress, Indigenous sovereignty, and more. From displacement and invisibility to insurgent mobilization, Yamada and Yasutake rejected the "quiet American" stereotype and fought to dismantle systems of injustice."--|cProvided by publisher. 588 Description based on online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on January 07, 2021). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 10 Yamada, Mitsuye.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n82127694 600 10 Yasutake, Michael,|d1920-2001.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n2020022805 600 11 Yasutake, Michael,|d1920-2001. 600 11 Yamada, Mitsuye. 600 17 Yamada, Mitsuye.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/99302 648 7 20th century|2fast 648 7 1900-1999|2fast 650 0 Japanese Americans|vBiography.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008105982 650 0 Asian Americans|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85008644|xCivil rights.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99004998 650 0 Civil rights movements|zUnited States|xHistory|y20th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2007100355 650 0 Social justice|zUnited States|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008111778|xHistory|y20th century. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 0 Human rights workers|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh87003462|zUnited States|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n78095330-781|vBiography.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001237 650 0 Clergy|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85026944 |zIllinois|zChicago|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n78086438-781|vBiography.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99001237 650 0 Poets|vBiography.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh2010106648 650 7 Japanese Americans.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 981441 650 7 Asian Americans|xCivil rights.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/818628 650 7 Asian Americans.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 818620 650 7 Civil rights movements.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/862708 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Social justice.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1122603 650 7 Human rights workers.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 963353 650 7 Clergy.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/864014 650 7 Poets.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1067778 650 7 SOCIAL SCIENCE / Ethnic Studies / Asian American Studies. |2bisacsh 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 651 7 Illinois|zChicago.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1204048 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Biographies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1919896 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 655 7 Biographies.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026049 776 08 |iPrint version:|aFujino, Diane Carol.|tNisei radicals |dSeattle : University of Washington Press, 2020. |z9780295748252|w(DLC) 2020015378 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=2717685|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
