It concludes that--contrary to many analyses of Chiapas's 1994 indigenous rebellion-- external influences can trump ideology in framing social movements. Rural Chiapas's prevalent communitarian attitudes resulted partly from external land tenure institutions, rather than from indigenous identities alone. The book further points to recent indigenous rights movements in neighboring Oaxaca, Mexico, as examples of bottom-up multicultural institutions that might be emulated in Mexico and elsewhere in Latin America"-- Provided by publisher. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Indians of Mexico|xPolitics and government.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008104392 650 0 Indians of Mexico|xEthnic identity.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008123201 650 0 Indians of Mexico|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85065134|xCivil rights.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh99004998 650 0 Civil rights movements|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85026384|zMexico.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n81013960-781 650 0 Indians of Mexico|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85065134|vStatistics.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99001414 650 0 Social surveys|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85124079|zMexico.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n81013960-781 650 0 Land tenure|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85074312|xSocial aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh00002758|zMexico.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n81013960-781 650 7 Indians of Mexico|xPolitics and government.|2fast|0https:/ /id.worldcat.org/fast/969609 650 7 Indians of Mexico|xEthnic identity.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/969546 650 7 Indians of Mexico|xCivil rights.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/969532 650 7 Indians of Mexico.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 969510 650 7 Civil rights movements.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/862708 650 7 Social surveys.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1123390 650 7 Land tenure|xSocial aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/991409 650 7 Land tenure.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/991362 650 7 Ethnic relations.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 916005 651 0 Mexico|xEthnic relations.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2010100750 651 0 Chiapas (Mexico)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n50049695|xEthnic relations.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00005646 651 0 Oaxaca (Mexico : State)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n80002951|xEthnic relations.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00005646 651 7 Mexico.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1211700 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Statistics.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1423727 655 7 Statistics.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026181 776 08 |iPrint version:|aEisenstadt, Todd A.|tPolitics, identity, and Mexico's indigenous rights movements.|dNew York : Cambridge University Press, 2011|z9781107001206|w(DLC) 2010031516|w(OCoLC)656158761 830 0 Cambridge studies in contentious politics.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2001095365 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=366166|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
