Now housed in the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana in Florence and bound in three lavishly illustrated volumes, the codex is a remarkable product of cultural exchange in the early Americas. In this edited volume, experts from multiple disciplines analyze the manuscript's bilingual texts and more than 2,000 painted images and offer fascinating, new insights on its twelve books. The contributors examine the "three texts" of the codex-the original Nahuatl, its translation into Spanish, and its painted images. Together, these constitute complementary, as well as conflicting, voices of an extended dialogue that occurred in and around Mexico City. The volume chapters address a range of subjects, from Nahua sacred beliefs, moral discourse, and natural history to the Florentine artists' models and the manuscript's reception in Europe. 'The Florentine Codex' ultimately yields new perspectives on the Nahua world several decades after the fall of the Aztec empire. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 630 00 Códice florentino.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n79110748 630 7 Códice florentino.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1360278 630 07 Códice florentino.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1360278 648 7 16th century|2fast 648 7 1500-1599|2fast 650 0 Manuscripts, Nahuatl.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85080694 650 0 Manuscripts, Mexican.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85080745 650 0 Aztecs|xHistory|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2007101765|y16th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2002012470 650 7 Manuscripts, Nahuatl.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1008441 650 7 Manuscripts, Mexican.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1008433 650 7 Aztecs.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/824720 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 651 0 Mexico|xHistory|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85084571|y16th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2002012470 651 7 Mexico.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1211700 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 700 1 Peterson, Jeanette Favrot,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n88625382|eeditor. 700 1 Terraciano, Kevin,|d1962-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/no95039637|eeditor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aPeterson, Jeanette Favrot.|tFlorentine Codex : An Encyclopedia of the Nahua World in Sixteenth- Century Mexico.|dAustin : University of Texas Press, ©2019 |z9781477318409 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=2243754|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
