They also examine related changes that have occurred after the triple disaster of March 2011 (the earthquake, tsunami, and meltdown of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear reactor), noting that reconstruction policy has favored deregulation and the reduction of social welfare. Sekine and Bonanno stress the incompatibility of the requirements of neoliberalism with the structural and cultural conditions of Japanese agri-food. Local farmers' and fishermen's emphasis on community collective management of natural resources, they argue, clashes with neoliberalism's focus on individualism and competitiveness. The authors conclude by pointing out the resulting fundamental contradiction: The lack of recognition of this incompatibility allows the continuous implementation of market solutions to problems that originate in these very market mechanisms"-- |cProvided by publisher. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Neoliberalism|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2005001629|zJapan.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names /n78089021-781 650 0 Agriculture|xEconomic aspects|zJapan.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2007100847 650 0 Food supply|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85050339|xPolitical aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00005651|zJapan.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78089021-781 650 7 Neoliberalism.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1737382 650 7 Agriculture|xEconomic aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/801415 650 7 Food supply|xPolitical aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/931219 650 7 Food supply.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/931196 651 7 Japan.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204082 655 4 Electronic books. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aSekine, Kae.|tContradictions of neoliberal agri-food.|dMorgantown, West Virginia : West Virginia University Press, 2016|z9781943665198|w(DLC) 2016004896|w(OCoLC)932387389 830 0 Rural studies series (Morgantown, W.V.) ;|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2014132854|vv. 4. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1257355|zOnline eBook.
