Although many feminists invoke concepts such as rights, equality, autonomy, and freedom in arguments for liberation, some attempt to avoid them, noting that they can also reinforce and perpetuate oppressive social structures. In Challenging Liberalism Schwartzman explores the reasons why concepts such as rights and equality can sometimes reinforce oppression. She argues that certain forms of abstraction and individualism are central to liberal methodology and that these give rise to a number of problems. Drawing on the work of feminist moral, political, and legal theorists, she constructs an approach that employs these concepts, while viewing them from within a critique of social relations of power. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Feminist theory.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh90002282 650 0 Liberalism|xPhilosophy.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2009129634 650 0 Abstraction.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85000258 650 0 Individualism.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85065686 650 0 Feminist criticism.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh87002168 650 7 Feminist theory.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 922816 650 7 Liberalism|xPhilosophy.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/997189 650 7 Abstraction.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/794769 650 7 Individualism.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/970328 650 7 Feminist criticism.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 922759 650 7 Feminist theory.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/ homoit0002039 655 4 Electronic books. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aSchwartzman, Lisa H., 1969-|tChallenging liberalism.|dUniversity Park, Pa. : Pennsylvania State University Press, ©2006|z027102853X|w(DLC) 2005028568 |w(OCoLC)61864249 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=168134|zOnline eBook.
