This study examines the deep history of human trafficking from Late Antiquity to the Early Modern Period. It traces the evolution of trafficking patterns: the growth and decline of trafficking routes, the ever-changing relationships between traffickers and authorities, and it examines the underlying causes that lead to vulnerability and thus to exploitation. As the reader will discover, the conditions that lead to human trafficking in the modern world, such as poverty, attitudes of entitlement, corruption, and violence, have a long and storied past. When we understand that past, we can better anticipate human trafficking's future, and then we are better able to fight it. 588 0 Online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on October 01, 2020). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 648 7 476-1492|2fast 648 7 To 1500|2fast 650 0 Prostitution|zEurope|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2010108675|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Slavery|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85123314|zEurope|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85045631-781|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Human trafficking|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh2006002629|zEurope|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85045631-781|yTo 1500.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2002012483 650 7 Prostitution.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1079562 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Slavery.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1120426 650 7 Human trafficking.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1739818 650 7 HISTORY|xMedieval.|2bisacsh 650 7 Female prostitution.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/ homoit0000434 650 7 Prostitution.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/ homoit0001136 651 0 Europe|xHistory|y476-1492.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh85045690 651 7 Europe.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1245064 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 830 0 Social worlds of late antiquity and the early Middle Ages. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2017098516 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=2601019|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
