Despite this, many people with hearing loss do not seek or receive hearing health care. The reasons are numerous, complex, and often interconnected. For some, hearing health care is not affordable. For others, the appropriate services are difficult to access, or individuals do not know how or where to access them. Others may not want to deal with the stigma that they and society may associate with needing hearing health care and obtaining that care. Still others do not recognize they need hearing health care, as hearing loss is an invisible health condition that often worsens gradually over time. In the United States, an estimated 30 million individuals (12.7 percent of Americans ages 12 years or older) have hearing loss. Globally, hearing loss has been identified as the fifth leading cause of years lived with disability. Successful hearing health care enables individuals with hearing loss to have the freedom to communicate in their environments in ways that are culturally appropriate and that preserve their dignity and function. Hearing Health Care for Adults focuses on improving the accessibility and affordability of hearing health care for adults of all ages. This study examines the hearing health care system, with a focus on non- surgical technologies and services, and offers recommendations for improving access to, the affordability of, and the quality of hearing health care for adults of all ages"--Publisher's description. 588 Description based on online resource; title from pdf title page (National Academies Press, viewed September 12, 2016). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Deafness|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85036068|xResearch|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2002006576|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 Deafness|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85036068|xTreatment|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99005040|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 Deafness|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85036068|xTreatment|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99005040|xTechnological innovations.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2001009095 650 0 Hearing impaired|xServices for|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00003166|zUnited States.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 Hearing impaired|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85059626|xResearch|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2002006576|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 7 Deafness|xResearch.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 888586 650 7 Deafness.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/888573 650 7 Deafness|xTreatment.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 888590 650 7 Technological innovations.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1145002 650 7 Hearing impaired|xServices for.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/953463 650 7 Hearing impaired|xResearch.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org /fast/953462 650 7 Hearing impaired.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 953443 651 2 United States.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D014481 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Blazer, Dan G.,|cII|q(Dan German),|d1944-|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n85074849|eeditor. 700 1 Domnitz, Sarah Brooke,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/no2012028620|eeditor. 700 1 Liverman, Catharyn T.,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n95019366|eeditor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|tHearing Health Care for Adults. |dWashington, DC : National Academies Press, [2016] |z9780309439268|w(OCoLC)950957810 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1355680|zOnline eBook.
