Beginning with an historical overview of developments in voluntary sector-government relations from 1600 to 1930, High Ideals and Noble Intentions goes on to explore more recent events and to bring present day policy and practice into focus. 520 Peter R. Elson examines critical historical events in the relationship between the federal government and the voluntary sector which continue to exert their influence. He demonstrates through in-depth case studies that these events are critical to understanding contemporary voluntary sector-government relations. Elson explores the impact of the regulation of charities based on amendments to the 1930 Income War Tax Act; the shift from citizen- based program funding to service-based contract funding in the mid-1990s; and advocacy regulation changes in the 1980s. Elson's case is strengthened by an important and timely comparison between voluntary sector and central government relations in Canada and England. This historically informed comparative analysis provides the basis for practical recommendations meant to improve the future of voluntary sector-government relations across Canada."--Pub. desc. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Nonprofit organizations|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85032985|xGovernment policy|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh99005269|zCanada.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79007233-781 650 0 Charities|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85022665|xGovernment policy|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005269|zCanada.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79007233-781 650 0 Voluntarism|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85144334|xGovernment policy|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005269|zCanada.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79007233-781 650 0 Nonprofit organizations|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85032985|xGovernment policy|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh99005269|zCanada|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79007233-781|xHistory. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Charities|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85022665|xGovernment policy|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005269|zCanada|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79007233-781|xHistory. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Voluntarism|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85144334|xGovernment policy|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005269|zCanada|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79007233-781|xHistory. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Nonprofit organizations|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85032985|xGovernment policy|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh99005269|zEngland.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n82068148-781 650 7 Nonprofit organizations|xGovernment policy.|2fast|0https:/ /id.worldcat.org/fast/1038903 650 7 Nonprofit organizations.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1038875 650 7 Charities|xGovernment policy.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/852421 650 7 Charities.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/852404 650 7 Voluntarism|xGovernment policy.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1168982 650 7 Voluntarism.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1168976 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 651 7 Canada.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204310 651 7 England.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1219920 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aElson, Peter R., 1948-|tHigh ideals and noble intentions|z9781442641907|w(DLC) 2011410036 |w(OCoLC)648388106 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=682765|zOnline eBook.
