Little Rock and the legacies of Brown v. Board of Education. 520 The desegregation crisis in Little Rock is a landmark of American history: on September 4, 1957, after the Supreme Court struck down racial segregation in public schools, Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus called up the National Guard to surround Little Rock Central High School, preventing black students from going in. On September 25, 1957, nine black students, escorted by federal troops, gained entrance. With grace and depth, Little Rock provides fresh perspectives on the individuals, especially the activists and policymakers, involved in these dramatic events. Looking at a wide variety of evidence and sources, Karen Anderson examines American racial politics in relation to changes in youth culture, sexuality, gender relations, and economics, and she locates the conflicts of Little Rock within the larger political and historical context. --From publisher's description. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 610 20 Central High School (Little Rock, Ark.)|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80067481|xHistory.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 610 27 Central High School (Little Rock, Ark.)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/545053 648 7 20th century|2fast 648 7 1900 - 1999|2fast 650 0 School integration|zArkansas|zLittle Rock|xHistory|y20th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2010112073 650 0 African American students|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85001908|zArkansas|zLittle Rock|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79133172-781|xHistory|y20th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2002006165 650 0 African Americans|xEducation|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85001946|zArkansas|zLittle Rock |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79133172-781 |xHistory|y20th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2002006165 650 0 School integration|xMassive resistance movement|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2005002748|zArkansas |zLittle Rock|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n79133172-781|xHistory|y20th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 School integration.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1107474 650 7 African American students.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/799375 650 7 African Americans|xEducation.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/799600 650 7 School integration|xMassive resistance movement.|2fast |0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1765623 651 0 Little Rock (Ark.)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n79133172|xRace relations.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh00007552 651 0 Little Rock (Ark.)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n79133172|xPolitics and government|y20th century.|0https:/ /id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002011443 651 7 Arkansas|zLittle Rock.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /1206922 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aAnderson, Karen, 1947-|tLittle Rock. |dPrinceton, N.J. : Princeton University Press, ©2010 |z9780691092935|w(DLC) 2009022870|w(OCoLC)149075063 830 0 Politics and society in twentieth-century America.|0https: //id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n99253090 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=305810|zOnline eBook.
