Summary |
"Gonzalez's manuscript uses the theoretical underpinnings of Chicana and African-American feminist intellectual history and epistemology to create a new understanding of the work done by Chicana artists and activists (or artivistas) from East Los Angeles from 1995 to the present. Gonzalez is a well-known musician from this community herself and, with this background, is especially focused on the ways the arts, particularly music, have created community engagement. Gonzalez blends her own story as a Mexican immigrant's daughter in California who went on to become a Grammy Award-winning musician (as part of the band Quetzal) into her work as an activist and her career as a scholar"-- Provided by publisher. |
