Summary "This qualitative study investigated the establishment of piano practice habits by exploring the collaboration between collegiate piano majors and their instructors. Over a two-month period, the researcher interviewed six participants regarding their experience with piano practice. The interviews aimed to identify and produce findings about the function of practice. The researcher was specifically interested in the multi-dimensions of piano practice and how piano practice habits and practice strategies are employed by students and teachers.... The population was delimited to three piano majors and three piano faculty members.... The data were comprised of interviews, observations, and video recordings. A cross-referenced analysis of the data revealed four trends, which were validated through triangulation, as well as construct and internal validity.... [The] findings clearly demonstrate the importance of the interaction and communication about practice as it relates to student and teacher. In addition, the findings reveal that one's personal experience greatly contributes to an understanding and approach to practice"--P. vii-viii.
