During the Nazi regime in Germany, "degenerate art" was the official term for much of the most important modern art of the day. "Degenerate art" was defined by the Nazi regime as artwork that was not in line with the National Socialists' ideas of beauty. Their condemnation extended to works in nearly every major art movement: Expressionism, Dada, New Objectivity, Surrealism, Cubism, and Fauvism. Banned artists included Max Beckmann, Paul Klee, and Oskar Kokoschka. Richly illustrated, Degenerate Art elucidates the historical and intellectual context of the notorious exhibition in Munich in 1937, which spurred the attack on modern art. The book contains reflections on the genesis and evolution of the term "degenerate art" and details of the National Socialist policy on art. Art works from the exhibition Degenerate Art are compared to works of art from The Great German Art Exhibition, which was held at the same time and displayed the works of officially approved artists. The book also presents the after-effects of the attack on modernism that are felt even today. Verfemte Künstler waren u. a. New York, USA (13.03.- 30.06.2014). 648 7 20th century|2fast 648 7 1900 - 1999|2fast 650 0 Entartete Kunst|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2002009708|vExhibitions.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh99001275 650 0 National socialism and art|vExhibitions.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2010103240 650 0 Art, Modern|y20th century|vExhibitions.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2007101136 650 7 Entartete Kunst.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 912589 650 7 National socialism and art.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org /fast/1033786 650 7 Art, Modern.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/816615 655 4 Ausstellung|zNew York, NY|y2014. 655 7 Exhibition catalogs.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1424028 655 7 Exhibition catalogs.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/genreForms/gf2014026098 700 1 Lauder, Ronald S.,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n84165680|ewriter of preface. 700 1 Price, Renée,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2002027264|ewriter of supplementary textual content. 700 1 Peters, Olaf,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ nb99015078|eeditor. 700 1 Fulda, Bernhard,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n2008064048|econtributor. 710 2 Neue Galerie New York,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/no2002027261|ehost institution. 901 MARCIVE 20231220 935 600646 948 |d20181012|cLTI|tlti-aup183 948 |d20171012|cLTI|tlti-aup173 948 |d20161019|clti|tlti-aup163 994 C0|bRID
