Summary Sophie Ellerby's play THREE is a funny, dark and insightful drama about family connections and the fallout from violence. It was first performed by the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain at the Arcola Theatre, London, on 20 July 2017, and is published as part of the Nick Hern Books Multiplay Drama series featuring large-cast plays specifically written to be performed by and appeal to older teenagers and young adults. The play's action takes place over a week in mid-June at various locations across London. Rochelle (age 27), Jaz (age 21) and Tia (turning 16 as the play opens) live in a flat on a South London estate. Rochelle is holding the family together in their parents' absence: their mum is dead, and their dad is in prison, due to be released tomorrow. Life has been hard, but things are looking up, and this could be the best summer they've ever had. But their dad doesn't turn up as expected, and instead, their flat is raided by the police. The three sisters are left fighting to keep a hold on reality as their whole world is shot to pieces. The National Youth Theatre production was directed by Anna Niland, and performed by members of the company.
