Mary Robinson (1758-1800) -- pt. 2. Jane West (1758 -1852) -- pt. 3. Amelia Opie (1769-1853). 520 1 "Mary Robinson, fantastic beauty, popular actress, and once lover of the Prince of Wales, received the epithet 'the English Sappho' for her lyric verse. Amelia Opie, a member of the fashionable literary society and later a Quaker, included among her friends Sydney Smith, Byron, and Scott, and reputedly refused Godwin's marriage proposal out of admiration for Mary Wollstonecraft. Jane West, who tended her household and dairy while writing prolifically to support her children, was in direct opposition to the radically feminist ideas preceding her. These authors, each from different ideological and social backgrounds, all grappled with a desire for empowerment. Writing in an atmosphere hardened towards reform in response to the French revolution's upheavals, these women focus their narratives on typically feminine attributes - docility, maternal feeling, heightened sensibility (that key word of the period). That focus invests these attributes with new meaning, making supposed female weaknesses potentially active forces for social change."-- Jacket. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 10 Opie, Amelia,|d1769-1853|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n50006412|xCriticism, interpretation, etc.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99004866 600 10 Robinson, Mary,|d1758-1800|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n83122576|xCriticism, interpretation, etc.|0https:/ /id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99004866 600 10 West, Jane,|d1758-1852|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n50003418|xCriticism, interpretation, etc.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99004866 600 14 Opie, Amelia,|d1769-1853. 600 14 Robinson, Mary,|d1758-1800. 600 14 West, Jane,|d1758-1852. 600 14 Opie, Amelia Alderson,|d1769-1853. 600 14 Robinson, Mary (Schriftstellerin) 600 14 West, Jane (Schriftstellerin) 600 14 Opie, Amelia Alderson. 600 16 Robinson, Mary,|d1758-1800|xCritique, interprétation, etc. 600 16 West, Jane,|d1758-1852|xCritique, interprétation, etc. 600 16 Opie, Amelia Alderson,|d1769-1853|xCritique, interprétation, etc. 600 17 Opie, Amelia,|d1769-1853.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1861042 600 17 Robinson, Mary,|d1758-1800.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org /fast/113756 600 17 West, Jane,|d1758-1852.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/829 600 17 Robinson, Mary (Schriftstellerin)|2swd 600 17 West, Jane (Schriftstellerin)|2swd 600 17 Opie, Amelia Alderson.|2swd 648 7 18th century|2fast 648 7 19th century|2fast 648 7 1700-1899|2fast 650 0 English fiction|xWomen authors|xHistory and criticism. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008103101 650 0 Feminist fiction, English|xHistory and criticism.|0https:/ /id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008103667 650 0 English fiction|y18th century|xHistory and criticism. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008103099 650 0 English fiction|y19th century|xHistory and criticism. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008103100 650 0 Women in literature.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85147587 650 0 Feminism in literature.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh94004224 650 7 English fiction|xWomen authors.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/910866 650 7 Feminist fiction, English.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/922773 650 7 English fiction.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 910817 650 7 Women in literature.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1177912 650 7 Feminism in literature.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/922752 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Criticism, interpretation, etc.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1411635 776 08 |iPrint version:|aTy, Eleanor Rose, 1958-|tEmpowering the feminine.|dToronto ; Buffalo : University of Toronto Press, ©1998|w(DLC) 99189786 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=468101|zOnline eBook.
