Much of the discussion surrounding these initiatives has focused on the preparation, professional development, evaluation, compensation, and career advancement of teachers. Yet one critical set of voices has been largely missing from this discussion - that of classroom teachers themselves. To explore the potential for STEM teacher leaders to improve student learning through involvement in education policy and decision making, the National Research Council held a convocation in June 2014 entitled "One Year After Science's Grand Challenges in Education: Professional Leadership of STEM Teachers through Education Policy and Decision Making". This event was structured around a special issue of Science magazine that discussed 20 grand challenges in science education. The authors of three major articles in that issue - along with Dr. Bruce Alberts, Science's editor-in-chief at the time - spoke at the convocation, updating their earlier observations and applying them directly to the issue of STEM teacher leadership. The convocation focused on empowering teachers to play greater leadership roles in education policy and decision making in STEM education at the national, state, and local levels. Exploring Opportunities for STEM Teacher Leadership is a record of the presentations and discussion of that event. This report will be of interest to STEM teachers, education professionals, and state and local policy makers".--Publisher's description. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Science teachers|xTraining of|zUnited States|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2010112263|vCongresses. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001533 650 0 Engineering teachers|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85043247|xTraining of|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00005618|zUnited States|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78095330-781|vCongresses. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001533 650 0 Educational leadership|zUnited States|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008102491|vCongresses.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001533 650 0 Mathematics teachers|xTraining of|zUnited States|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2010101052|vCongresses. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001533 650 7 Science teachers|xTraining of.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1108795 650 7 Engineering teachers.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 910634 650 7 Educational leadership.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/903527 650 7 Mathematics teachers|xTraining of.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1012353 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Conference papers and proceedings.|2lcgft|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026068 655 7 Conference papers and proceedings.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1423772 700 1 Labov, Jay B.|q(Jay Brian),|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/no2008073081|erapporteur. 710 2 National Research Council (U.S.),|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79036113|ehost institution,|eissuing body. 711 2 One Year After Science's Grand Challenges in Education: Professional Leadership of STEM Teachers Through Education Policy and Decision Making (Convocation)|d(2014 : |cWashington, D.C.) 776 08 |cOriginal|z0309314569|z9780309314565|w(OCoLC)898157475 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=931886|zOnline eBook.
