Robert J. Thornton explores why HIV prevalence fell during the 1990s in Uganda despite that country's having one of Africa's highest fertility rates, while during the same period HIV prevalence rose in South Africa, the country with Africa's lowest fertility rate. Thornton finds that culturally and socially determined differences in the structure of sexual networksrather than changes in individual behaviorwere responsible for these radical differences in HIV. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 AIDS (Disease)|zUganda|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2009114507|xEpidemiology.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005646 650 0 AIDS (Disease)|zSouth Africa|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2009114513|xEpidemiology.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005646 650 0 AIDS (Disease)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85002541|xSocial aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh00002758|zUganda.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n80126332-781 650 0 AIDS (Disease)|xSocial aspects|zSouth Africa.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2009114539 650 2 Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome|xepidemiology.|0https:/ /id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D000163Q000453 650 2 Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome|xprevention & control. |0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D000163Q000517 650 2 Anthropology, Cultural|xmethods.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/ mesh/D000884Q000379 650 2 Health Policy.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D006291 650 2 Sexual Behavior.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D012725 650 2 Socioeconomic Factors.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/ D012959 650 7 AIDS (Disease)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/793808 650 7 Epidemiology.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/914091 650 7 AIDS (Disease)|xSocial aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/793952 651 0 South Africa|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85125452|xEpidemiology.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99005646 651 0 Uganda|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80126332 |xEpidemiology.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh99005646 651 2 South Africa.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D013019 651 2 Uganda.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D014454 651 7 Uganda.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1210282 651 7 South Africa.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204616 655 4 Electronic books. 776 08 |iPrint version:|z9780520255531 830 0 California series in public anthropology.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2001011232 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=295132|zOnline eBook.
